Shirley Chisholm was the first Black woman to be elected to United States Congress. From 1969 - 1983, Chisholm represented a New York district, and she also ran for president in 1972. #BlackHistoryMatters
Today marks the first day of Black History Month - we are looking forward to recognizing, studying, and celebrating the powerful impact of so many African Americans. These important conversations must happen ALL year, not just during the month of February.
