After almost a decade, “Stranger Things” is finally coming to an end. Many have grown up with this show; the actors of “Stranger Things” have grown up on the show, starting out as pre-teens when it first began, and now emerging into early adulthood. The final season of this show will definitely be a tear-jerker. The creators of this show, Matt and Ross Duffer, also known as the Duffer brothers, have said to expect plot twists, intense storylines, new characters, and a lot of deaths.
“Stranger Things” is based on real-life government experiments, primarily the MKUltra and Montauk projects. It is also heavily inspired by the game Dungeons and Dragons. “Stranger Things” takes place in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, in the 1980s. It is about a group of friends who get entangled with a lot of supernatural events and creatures from another dimension.
“Especially with the way that the last season ended, I’m very excited to see how it goes with the new plot,” sophomore Ava Robinson said. “We’ve been waiting two years. It better be really good.”
The last season of “Stranger Things” is going to be released in three parts, revolving around the upcoming holidays. The first part of the season will be released on Nov. 26, before Thanksgiving. The second part will be released on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. The final part of the whole season will be released on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, and that will conclude the “Stranger Things” franchise.
“I am really excited,” sophomore Trinity Jackson said. “I just don’t like how they’re breaking it up, releasing it at different times. What if I’ve got plans on New Year’s? Now I can’t tune in immediately.”
This show is one of Netflix's major, most-watched hits, producing billions of dollars, and it is considered a cultural phenomenon. Because of the nostalgia and the blend of genres present in the show, many will miss it when it comes to an end. Others say it’s the right time.
“I feel like it's a bittersweet feeling that this show is coming to an end, knowing I grew up watching ‘Stranger Things,' but I'm also excited as well to see what happens, but I know I'm going to be bawling my eyes out,” junior Aitza Romero said.
There have been a lot of predictions for this last season of “Stranger Things,” many of them involving which characters viewers think are going to get killed or sacrifice themselves. One prediction is that when they are fighting the Vecna army, someone like Eleven or Hopper will sacrifice themselves to save everyone. Others believe past characters who have died in the show might come back in spirit form and help. Another big theory is that since the show started with Will, he might be the one to end it all, or possibly become compromised by Vecna or the Mind Flayer again.
“I hope they don’t kill off my favorite character, which is Will,” sophomore Elaine McDowell said. “The reason why I like Will is just because he’s a relatable character.”
Other students are also nervous about the fate of their favorite characters, since the Duffer brothers have shown that no one is safe in this series.
“I’m really nervous,” sophomore Lyric McGee Bradberry said. “It might go wrong. My favorite people might end up dying, like Lucas. I feel like he’s going to die for some reason.”
Many of these actors and actresses had gotten their jumpstart from this show. Although this story is finally ending after nine years of being active, most of the actors and actresses have upcoming projects after the end of “Stranger Things,” like Millie Bobby Brown starring in the third season of “Enola Holmes” and others working on movies that are either recently or soon-to-be released. Joe Keery also has a hit song, “End of Beginning," and has been on tour; he also has some movies that are coming out soon.
