Sonny day food waits to be passed out. The next distribution day is Nov 15.

The government shutdown has led to delays in SNAP benefits, making families worried that they won't have the support they need to put enough food on the table, especially during this time of the year. Here's a list of some local stores, churches and food banks offering support to families:

  • Aldis 

    • Aldis has a 40$ for 10 people Thanksgiving meal.

  • Target

    • Their Thanksgiving meal deal includes a frozen turkey and sides for four people for $20.

  • Sonny Day

    • The food bank will offer holiday favorites during its November distribution. 

  • Southport United Methodist Church

    • On Saturday, Nov. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m., the church will be providing a Thanksgiving meal on a first-come, first-served basis at 1947 East Southport Road.

  • Plainfield Christian Church 

    • The church is hosting a free Thanksgiving Day meal on Thursday, Nov. 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal is open to all and will be available for both dine-in and carry-out. Reservations are not required.

  • Old Bethel 

    • The church, located at 8032 E 21st Street, is open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • New Direction Church

    • Located at 5640 E 38th Street, the church is open on the third Saturday of every month.

  • Caring Place 

    • At 2901 N Post Road, Caring Place is open on the first Monday of each month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the third Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
