Warren Central has many upstanding and inclusive clubs for students, including the Gender and Sexuality Alliance club. According to its members, the GSA club is a safe, welcoming space for all students. It's a safe place for LGBTQ+ and allies to unite in support, learning, and community. They focus on creating a school environment where everyone feels seen, respected, and valued for who they are.

“I am really thankful for the GSA,” sophomore Johnny Combs said. “I absolutely love it. I'm quite happy with this club.”

The GSA club has been around for several years. Ninth grade English teacher Clifton Jett founded this club as a student sponsor during his sophomore year at Warren Central in 2014. Each new year for the clubs brings new energy, ideas, and ways to make a difference here at Warren Central.

“High school can be a time of discovery and growth, and for many students, it’s also a time when they’re learning about identity and acceptance,” Jett said. “Having a GSA helps create a sense of belonging, reduces bullying, and promotes empathy and understanding. It gives students a place to connect, express themselves freely, and learn how to be better allies.”

Combs expresses that this club has helped students to experience things; it also helps students get out of their comfort zone and helps them understand themselves and others better. In the GSA club, they learn ways they can support and help each other.

Warren Central has brought about a lot of new changes this year in the 2025-2026 school year; one of the changes has been the name change for the Gender and Sexuality Alliance, the old name being Gay-Straight Alliance.

“The name changed from Gay-Straight Alliance to Gender and Sexuality Alliance to better reflect the diversity within our community,” Jett said. “The updated name is more inclusive of students across the spectrum of gender identities and sexual orientations. It’s about celebrating everyone under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, not just gay or straight.”

The group hosts discussions on identity, inclusion, and LGBTQ+ history, plans awareness events like Pride Month activities, and creates fun community moments. These include movie days, art projects, and safe-space circles. Most of all, they work to make the school a more inclusive place for all students, whether that's through support groups, educational sessions, or spreading awareness for advocacy.
