The “Now You See Me” franchise is making its triumphant return to the big screen in “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” after almost 10 years. The franchise is driven by magic, illusions and mystery through the eyes of The Four Horsemen, a group of magicians who stunned the world with their elaborate stunts and acts, but in doing so, they enacted some of the biggest heists the world has ever seen. The catch is that these heists are actually done for the greater good and to expose or steal from corrupt millionaires.
The first film, “Now You See Me,” was released in 2013 and showed how the Horsemen came together and revolved around their first heist. All the while, the FBI, specifically Agent Dylan Rhodes, was on their tail, trying to catch them in the act. Hiding their scheme with their magic act, they used their knowledge of illusions, sleight of hand and hypnotism to complete their heist. Going from show to show, more of their plan was set into motion, leading to their final act, in which they were successful. After escaping from the FBI, the Horsemen went searching for answers about who the mastermind behind their plan was. Unknown to them, the mastermind behind everything was actually Agent Rhodes, the very man who was chasing them. The Horsemen then disappeared.
The second film, “Now You See Me 2,” came out three years later in 2016. This movie followed a similar story, but with a twist. Sent on a mission to expose a ruthless tech CEO, the Horsemen were exposed to the public themselves. They were then abducted by corrupt tech mogul Walter Mabry, played by Daniel Radcliffe. He forced them to use their skills to steal a high-tech chip for him to make him millions. The rest of the film showed them outsmarting their captors and standing tall once again.
The main cast of the first two films will be reprising their iconic roles in this new movie. Starring Jesse Eisenberg as Daniel Atlas, Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney, Isla Fisher as Henley Reeves, Dave Franco as Jack Wilder and Morgan Freeman as Thaddeus Bradley, almost all of the original cast are returning. Along with the original Horsemen, three new magicians have joined the group. Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa and Ariana Greenblatt are all playing younger magicians who join the Horsemen on their newest heist.
Now, nine years later, the newest film will show us the Horsemen reuniting for their biggest trick yet, taking down a worldwide crime network. From trailers, viewers can see Atlas recruiting the younger magicians to help him pull off his biggest heist ever. While doing so, the other Horsemen appear to help them, and together they plan to take down the crime network. “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” releases in theaters Nov. 14, so make sure to go see this movie for a magical and mysterious heist adventure.
