Superintendent Update - July

July 16, 2025

Good Afternoon, Warren Students, Families, and Staff,

We have some important information as we get closer to the start of the 2025-2026 school year.

Youth and Community Safety

I want to begin by addressing a very serious and critical topic: the safety of our youth and communities. This summer has been a challenging and deeply sad time for the greater Indianapolis area, as we continue to experience far too many acts of violence and the heartbreaking loss of young lives. These tragedies are becoming far too frequent and cannot be accepted as our norm.

In response, I, along with the ten other Marion County superintendents, fully support Proposal No. 232, introduced by Councilor Leroy Robinson, to extend youth curfew hours in Marion County.

The proposed ordinance would move curfew hours earlier to help keep our young people safe: from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday for youth ages 15–17. For those under 15, the curfew would apply daily from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

We do not believe this proposal is about punishment, but rather it is about prevention. It is about creating the conditions for our youth to thrive, reclaiming our neighborhoods, and protecting our collective peace of mind. By supporting this ordinance, we send a clear message that our community stands united in prioritizing the safety, well-being, and future of our young people.

We encourage our families and community members to contact their City-County Council representative to voice support for Proposal No. 232. The ordinance will be reviewed by the Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee tonight,  July 16, at 5:30 p.m., and public comments are welcomed.

Additionally, I will be working with District leaders, staff, students, families, and our community to continue the conversation and problem-solving around how we can create a safe and thriving environment for our kids. In the coming days, we will be providing additional information, resources, and opportunities to engage with one another. If you need immediate support, please contact your child’s school or our Moorhead Community Resource Center Team.

Bus Information

It is a long-standing tradition in Warren for our transportation team to contact families prior to the start of the school year with their students' bus information. This will take place next week before the first day of school.

Below are some helpful transportation tips to start the year:

  1. It is

    important

that your student be out a minimum of 10-15 minutes

    prior to

    their scheduled pick-up time.

  2. For the safety of your student, it is

    critical

    that we have

    a good working

phone number in our system so that you

    will

    always receive important information

    on

    your student's bus.

  3. Bus information is available in ParentVUE.

Click on the Student Info tab in ParentVUE and scroll down to

    Transportatio

    n

    .

There you will see the bus number, bus stop, and time for both pick-up and drop-off.

  4. Once school starts, you can track your child's bus through the MY STOP APP on your phone or tablet; follow the directions on the district website under

    Transportation/MY STOP.

You will need your student number and your student's date of birth.
